The Chickens are Starting to Lay!

The chickens are beginning to pay for their food and board and they are in big debt!

The chickens were 4 weeks old last Saturday.

This is getting very stinky by now. They are triple the size they were when we first got them. We did get a bigger box though, so that makes up for their growing a little bit. Dad is working on the chicken run on our coop. I'll post a picture when it's done. It should be soon because we need to move these chickens in a couple of weeks! I GOT CHICKS !

This will be read by Hank the Bird Dog. You may know about me by a picture on my mistress' blog. In that picture she disgraces me by putting my fancy pants on. Well now I am the self proclaimed head of chick security and boy does it stink. Not as in bad job, but in the stink that stinks. Now I will tell the whole story. One day my mistress and her pa left the house. They came back oh, about an hour later carrying a box. On the side of the box there was a mysterious form of writing. I moved closer to the box. The writing seemed to be 4 words. Now I will decrift and desiphen the words. Now the first word appears to be a 10. The second word looks like rode. The third one is island. the last and final word seems to be reds and the whole thing together is 10 Rode Island Reds. I had to do this in a few seconds. Although it may seem hard to the average dog, it's not for a high performance machine. Now they put the box of chicks inside a metal cage in the office but they didn't need the cage. It may seem strange, but I was scared of them little squawkers up close.

I will try to give you an update next Saturday.

MY CATS

My cats don't like rats or bats.
They are friendly cats.
They like to sit all day.
Sometimes they get up and play.
But never all day.
At night they run and play.
But they will come back to me in the day.
I love my cats, they are my sweeties in the day.
My cats are sweet as honey if they are good all day.
Their names are Ginger and Arther the two greatest cats that don't like rats or bats.

A SWEATER FOR FANCY PANTS HANK

I am making a sweater for Hank because he's a short haired dog and he gets cold. There is an "H" on the back, it stands for Hank. I hope it fits him. I will post a picture of Hank in it when it's done. Maybe I'll knit him a pair of pants next. I got the idea from the Lion Brand Yarn website. There are free patterns on there. Here is a picture of Hank's sweater so far.

I SHOT A DEER

I shot a deer last Saturday on opening day of hunting season! Dad said I hit it good. I was using my brother's rifle. It was the first time I had ever shot his rifle and it was the first animal I ever killed! It was a 7 point deer!

My brothers and I found 8 different bunnies this week. Hank, our dog helped us find the bunnies. We let them go but they were so soft and kuddly and cute.

I like to cook and can and do things in the kitchen. Last week we canned jalapenos and yesterday we made pita pockets. I had a lot of fun in the kitchen! They were good and I want to make them regularly. here is the recipe:

the baker

I made this bread all by myself. I have been wanting to make bread for a while now and it just hasn't been working out. I made some for grandma and grandpa too. Grandma said it was good. It is half white and half whole wheat and has nutmeg and sage in it. It is really really good. I'm going to be the house breadmaker. Mom is thrilled about that. Today I'm going to make cookies while mom paints next door.

I printed out 5 new patterns, one is a sweater for the cats. Another one is for washcloths, which I plan to make soon. I got two sock patterns and one cardigan pattern. Check it out!

THE FUNNY MOVIE

We watched a funny movie yesterday. It's name is NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON'T. It's about a boy in science class that discovers a liquid that makes thing disappear.

THE BIG STRAWBERRY

Once upon a time there was a little strawberry plant. It grew into a big strawberry plant. One day the man who owns the plant sees a little strawberry on the plant. And then about a week later he looked again and he saw that the little strawberry had turned into the big strawberry. And then the man picked the strawberry and took the strawberry to the store and sold it to the store keeper. And then someone came and bought the strawberry and took it home and the family had strawberry shortcake for dessert.

MY CATERPILLAR

Yesterday Mom found a caterpillar at our new house. Mom found it on a little plant when she was pulling weeds. I am going to see what kind of a butterfly it turns into. We made a little habitat for it. I'll tell you more about it later.

WENT TO THE POOL

On Monday we went to the pool and I got a sunburn. It was really hot that day and next time I will use sunscreen. There is a slide and a diving board at our pool. I went down the slide 5 or 6 times and I went off the diving board one time. I had lots of fun. It was the first trip to the pool this year and I hope we go again soon.

DAILY DUTY

I just got a new daily duty last month. I wash dishes and load the dishwasher. I wipe the counters, table, stove and dishwasher. It's a good job and I get paid at the end of each month. Mom says I do a really good job. I'll try to write about something more interesting tomorrow.

I FOUND A TOAD

Yesterday I found a toad by the air conditioner. I scarred mom with it when I brought it in the house. It is a girl and it is fast. It is a champion racing toad. It can jump really high. I almost lost it once. Sam caught a baby toad the same day. I don't have a picture of it yet. It's smaller than the end of my pinky! It will be a champion jumping toad when it grows up.

WORLDS OF FUN

A few weeks ago we went to WORLDS of FUN in KANSAS CITY! True to its name, it is fun. We went on four roller coasters and two other fun rides. It was the first roller coaster I ever went on and it was lots and lots of fun.
